Rice prices averaged USD 409 per metric ton in April, down 4.3% from March. On 30 April, the commodity traded at USD 420 per metric ton, down 0.7% from 31 March.
Rice fell to the lowest level since December 2021 in April, largely suppressed by looser export restrictions in India and expected surpluses in major exporters for the rest of the year. On the demand side, a weak Indian rupee plus past price declines fueled purchasing activity, capping the decrease.
